## Why Bruges is made for two

Bruges does romance without trying. The centre is barely two kilometres across and mostly car-free, so an evening is spent wandering lamplit lanes, not hunting for parking. There are hidden bridges the day-trippers never find, a lake the locals call the Lake of Love, chocolate on every corner, and candlelit tables tucked into 500-year-old brick. Staying central means the two of you spend the weekend on each other, not on logistics.

Day one

## Day one · slow morning, golden evening

Morning A late start & a quiet canal

No alarm. Coffee, then a slow loop of the Groenerei and Bonifacius Bridge — the prettiest, quietest corners, best before the crowds.

Afternoon Chocolate & a canal boat

Share a box from a proper chocolatier, then take a low open boat along the water — the classic Bruges view, shoulder to shoulder.

Golden hour The Lake of Love

Walk to the Minnewater as the light turns — swans, willows and the old bridge. Bring nothing to do.

Evening Candlelight

Dinner at a small candlelit table, then a lamplit walk home — five minutes, no rush.

## Bruges after dark

When the day-trippers leave on their coaches the city empties and the lamps come on. This is the Bruges most people never see: near-empty bridges mirrored in black water, warm windows, and the whole lit centre almost to yourselves.

Day two

## Day two · art, a tower & a last stroll

Morning Breakfast, then the belfry

Climb the Belfort together for the view over the rooftops — go early, before the queue.

Midday Michelangelo & the masters

The Church of Our Lady for Michelangelo's Madonna, or the Groeningemuseum's Flemish masters — a short walk apart.

Afternoon A beer with a view

A Belgian tripel on a sunny terrace, or a rooftop for the skyline. Nowhere to be.

Before you leave One last bridge

A final slow loop of the water before you go — and a reason to come back.

## Where to linger

Half the romance is in the lingering — a candlelit terrace on a small square, a second glass of wine, string lights overhead and no reason to leave. Bruges is built for exactly one more course.

Practical

## Make it special

### Book dinner ahead

The small, romantic places are tiny and fill fast on weekends — reserve before you arrive.

### Chase the quiet hours

Early morning and after six the crowds thin and the light is best. That's when Bruges is yours.

### Walk everywhere

The centre is flat, car-free and made for wandering hand in hand — leave the car, wear good shoes.

### Stay central

From a central base every candlelit corner is a short, safe walk home — no taxis, no logistics.
