TRAINS, NOT CARS · ON FOOT ONCE YOU'RE HERE

# Getting to Bruges the easy way

Bruges is easiest by train and best on foot. Skip the car, arrive in the centre, and leave the driving to day trips. Here's how to get here — and why you won't need wheels once you do.

Practical guide

## The one thing worth knowing first

The one thing worth knowing early: the historic centre is tiny and walkable, so where you \*stay\* matters more than how you get around. The Music Suites sits right by 't Zand, a few flat minutes from the station and the sights.

ARRIVING & MOVING AROUND

## Rail in, feet the rest

FROM BRUSSELS & THE AIRPORT

### Direct by rail

Frequent trains link Brussels to Bruges in about an hour, and Brussels Airport has a direct rail line into the city — no transfers, no hire car. From Paris, London (via Brussels) and Amsterdam, the train is the civilised way in.

ARRIVING IN BRUGES

### From platform to gables

Bruges station is a short walk (or a two-minute taxi) from 't Zand and the centre. Come out, cross the park, and you're already among the gables — bags stored safely with us if you arrive before check-in.

GETTING AROUND: YOUR FEET

### Smaller than it looks

You won't need transport inside the centre — it's smaller than it looks and made for walking. Cars are a hindrance on the cobbles; cycling is lovely but optional. Everything in our other guides is on foot.

DAY TRIPS BY RAIL

### Farther afield, effortlessly

When you do want to roam, the train makes it effortless: Ghent in about half an hour, the coast and Damme close by, Ypres and Flanders Fields a bit further. See the [Day Trips](/en/guides/day-trips-from-bruges) guide.
